10 injured in three Charlotte wrecks

Ten people were injured, nine of them seriously, in three crashes Saturday in Charlotte, authorities said.

Two of the multi-vehicle collisions involved motorcycles, authorities said.

Five injuries were reported in a three-vehicle collision about 5:20 p.m. on Wilkinson Boulevard near Tuckaseegee Road, authorities said. A motorcycle and two other vehicles were involved in that crash.

Medic reported taking two people with life-threatening injuries and three more with potentially life-threatening injuries to Carolinas Medical Center.

Three people were hurt in a wreck about 12:45 p.m. on northbound Interstate 85 near the Glenwood Drive interchange in west Charlotte, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation. That multi-vehicle crash involved a motorcycle and closed two lanes of I-85 for about an hour.

Medic reported taking one patient to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Two other victims were transported with potentially life-threatening injuries – one to Carolinas Medical Center, the other to Novant Presbyterian Hospital.

Earlier, shortly before 8:30 a.m., police and fire officials reported a multi-vehicle crash on Ardrey Kell Road at Providence Road, in southeast Charlotte. Fire officials reported one motorist was trapped for a brief time before being freed.

Medic said one patient was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries and another to CMC-Pineville with non life-threatening injuries.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and the N.C. Highway Patrol are investigating the wrecks.
