Habitual DWI offender from Conover sentenced to prison

A 29-year-old Conover man was convicted of habitual driving while impaired, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia last week and was sentenced to at least a year and three months in prison.

Tommy Warren Boyett III was sentenced in Catawba County Superior Court to no more than two years and three months in prison.

Boyett was charged with habitual driving while impaired in August 2013 when he stopped his car in the middle of the road at 1st St. Southwest and Workman Street in Conover. An officer determined he was operating the vehicle while under the influence of an impairing substance, prosecutors said.

Boyett had previously been convicted of driving while impaired on Sept. 13, 2005, Nov. 16, 2006, Aug. 19, 2008, and Feb. 7, 2013, all in Catawba County.
