NORFOLK, Va. Steve Lombardozzi had three hits and two RBIs as the Norfolk Tides beat the Charlotte Knights 5-1 on Wednesday in the finale of their two-game series at Harbor Park, the final meeting between the two teams this season. The Knights won the season series 11 games to 10.
The Tides got nine hits on Wednesday, and third baseman Jimmy Paredes hit a two-run home run in the second inning. Former University of South Carolina player Christian Walker went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a double, and an RBI.
Norfolk starter Tyler Wilson (4-2, 3.23) was superb on the afternoon. Wilson threw six shutout innings and struck out 10 batters, while allowing just three hits.
Charlotte starter Bobby Doran (5-2, 5.56) gave up four runs on seven hits over five innings and was charged with the loss. Doran gave up all three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Doran, who walked four and struck out one, lost for the first time in more than a month (July 26).
Jordan Danks made his return to the Charlotte lineup and passed Joe Borchard for the most at-bats in Knights franchise history. Danks, who was optioned to Charlotte from Chicago on Monday, went 0-for-3 with a walk. He has 1,667 career at-bats in a Knights uniform. Marcus Semien led the way offensively with two doubles. Andy Wilkins chipped in with his team-high 38th double of the season.
The Knights will have their final off day of the season on Thursday before heading to Gwinnett County, Ga., to open a two-game series with the Gwinnett Braves on Friday.
