LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. Jose Constanza’s sacrifice fly RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning broke a 2-2 tie and led the Gwinnett Braves to a 3-2 win over the Charlotte Knights in the finale of their two-game series on Saturday. Constanza came through with the game-winner off Charlotte reliever Matt Zaleski (2-1, 4.17), who was saddled with the loss after allowing one run over three innings.
Charlotte starter Carlos Rodon made his third career Class AAA start and first road start with the Knights. The left-hander, 21, allowed two runs on seven hits over five innings and did not factor in the decision. Rodon, who was selected third overall in the MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox, struck out seven batters over his five innings. He now has 18 strikeouts over 12 innings pitched with the Knights this season.
The Knights scored both of their runs in the seventh inning thanks to Marcus Semien. Semien ripped an inside-the-park home run off Gwinnett reliever Chasen Shreve. The home run was his 15th of the season and it helped him reach base in 24 consecutive games.
