TEGA CAY While checking her daughter's phone, a Tega Cay woman discovered her child may have started a dock fire at a lakeside park in Tega Cay.
The mother took her 16-year-old daughter's phone away from her Friday night for disciplinary reasons, according to a Tega Cay police report. While checking the phone, she found the girl had been sending messages about causing a fire on Aug. 14 that led to severe damage to the wooden dock at Pitcairn Park. She also found photos on the phone.
The woman took her daughter to Tega Cay Police, and the girl admitted her involvement. She told police she and another juvenile took books from her house and went to the dock area, where they started a fire and sat around for about an hour. They thought the fire was out so they left. The next day, the teens went back to the park and discovered the severe damage, the report states.
The girl turned over her phone to police as evidence and also provided the name and contact information of the other suspect.
A juvenile summons was issued for the girl and she was released back into the custody of her mother.
