Veteran may get wish for stamp

Garland Denny’s battle may soon be over.

Denny, an 83-year-old veteran from Monroe, has been lobbying for a postage stamp to commemorate – and help – veterans.

U.S. Rep. Robert Pittenger planned to announce Thursday night that he’ll introduce a bill to create a “semi-postal stamp” that would raise money to support PTSD treatment and services and support veterans organizations.

Last week Denny got a thank you from the commander-in-chief. “I thank you for what you’re doing,” President Barack Obama told him during an appearance in Charlotte. Jim Morrill
