The video game "Rock Band" is about to spawn a real-life rock band.
Energizer, the battery company, launched a contest Oct. 15 to find one video game band to play for 20 straight hours at the Energizer "Advance Into Overdrive" event at the MTV Store in Times Square Nov. 13.
To enter, bands will build a fan page at energizer.rock band.com and fill it with updates, photos and videos. Groups have until Nov. 3 to build their page and gain a following. The winning band will get the royal treatment in New York: luxury ground transportation, a hotel suite and dinners at some of New York's finest eateries. Best of all, the band's 20-hour performance will be streamed live online.
The winner's Time Square performance is actually the start of a new online Battle of the Bands contest Nov. 16, Nov. 18 and Nov. 20. Winners will receive the entire Rock Band song catalog (more than 800 songs), plus a year's worth of batteries and many other prizes. Anyone who enters will be put into a sweepstakes to win prizes like the "The Beatles Rock Band Limited Edition Bundle" and the "Ion Drum Rocker."
