Call it Rob Williams' swan song.

His final exhibit for the Mint Museum of Craft + Design is on the walls.

Possibilities: Rising Stars of Contemporary Craft in North Carolina” features six up-and-coming artists working in wood, glass, clay and metal and it brims with the qualities that have made Williams a contributor on the local art scene.

It shows the power of the hand (well-made), mind (challenging) and eye (beautiful). “I wanted to appeal to a younger audience,” said Williams. Williams is ending a nine-month stint as temporary crafts curator at the Mint. For this show he wanted to expose the “next wave” of craft artists in North Carolina, building on the state's crafts tradition.

He chose younger and mostly lesser-known artists he believes will reach the first rank.

Included are Vivian Beer (metal), Devin Burgess (glass), Cristina Cordova (ceramics), Anne Lemanski (paper), Brent Skidmore (furniture) and Jerilyn Virden (ceramics). Most of the 21 pieces in the show are for sale through the artists; prices from $1,800 to $15,000.
