Despite playing for the first time in four years without Dominique Archie, who injured his knee Sunday in a loss to Miami, the Gamecocks (5-1) won the highest-scoring game in Colonial Life Arena's nine-year history.
Travis Cohn gave Jacksonville (0-3) a 75-74 lead before Downey and Brandis Raley-Ross, who had a season-high 18 points, took control.
Ben Smith led the Dolphins with 27 points.

FLORIDA 77, No. 2 MICHIGAN STATE 74: At Atlantic City, N.J., Erving Walker hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:56 left and the Gators hung on to upset the Spartans in the Legends Classic.
Walker finished with 12 points to help the Gators (5-0) remain undefeated.
The Spartans (4-1) missed their chance to give coach Tom Izzo a record 341 victories at the school. Izzo will get another chance Saturday.
The Gators will play Rutgers in the championship game.

No. 10 SYRACUSE 85, COLUMBIA 60: Wes Johnson had a career-high 26 points, Arinze Onuaku added 12, and host Syracuse (6-0) beat the Lions (2-2).
It was the 805th career win for Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, seventh all-time in Division I and one more than Eddie Sutton.

NORTHWESTERN 72, No. 23 NOTRE DAME 58: John Shurna scored a career-high 25 and freshman Alex Marcotullio made a pair of key 3-pointers in the second half as Northwestern (4-1) beat Notre Dame (5-1) in the Chicago Invitational Challenge.
