A portion of Dorman and Sam Meeks roads in Pineville will be closed for a week, starting Saturday, for construction of a traffic roundabout.
The roads will be closed at 7 a.m. Saturday, and the scheduled completion date is Nov. 8.
State transportation officials say motorists traveling south on Dorman Road will need to follow Dorman Road (which becomes Harrisburg Road in South Carolina), to Barberville Road (which becomes Providence Road West in North Carolina), to Lancaster Highway. Northbound motorists will take the opposite route. The detour is marked.
The new roundabout will create a one-way intersection that requires approaching motorists to yield to circulating traffic, often eliminating the need to come to a complete stop.
