Motorists in the Myers Park and SouthPark areas might want to change their travel plans -- or their routes -- during the morning hours today.
Several hundred runners are scheduled to participate in the annual Dowd Half Marathon, which starts at 8 a.m. at the Dowd YMCA on East Morehead Street.
Runners are competing in 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) and half-marathon (13.1-mile) runs, and they will be on city streets until as late as 11 a.m.
Some of the streets that will be affected this morning are East Morehead, Providence Road, Fairview Road, Colony Road, and Queens Road West.
An agreement between race sponsors and the City of Charlotte calls for runners to be off the streets by 11 a.m., but slowdowns are likely before then.
