WALTERBORO, S.C. A South Carolina coroner says three people are dead and at least five more have been hurt in a drive-by shooting in a small town about 40 miles west of Charleston.
The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. Monday in Walterboro. Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey says the victims were from Walterboro and were related, though he did not know the relationships.
Harvey says 45-year-old Charles Kittrell died at scene. Twenty-month-old Shaniyah Burden died at Colleton Medical Center. Twenty-one-year-old Christopher Powell died at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Family members told The Post and Courier of Charleston the victims were playing cards in the front yard when a car pulled up and opened fire. Walterboro Police Capt. Ken Dasen says officers were looking for a black car with one headlight.
