    Saturnino Ortega-Vidal

A 2-month-old girl who was kidnapped Sunday night in Catawba County is safe with her mother this morning, but police say they are still looking for the man accused of taking her.

That man, identified by police as Saturnino Ortega-Vidal, managed to escape a police manhunt late Sunday night in Davie County, west of Winston-Salem.

Police say 2-month-old Catalin Hoard was taken from her home Sunday evening in Conover. They issued an Amber Alert for the girl, who they say had been taken by Ortega-Vidal.

Police in eastern Davie County said they spotted a pickup truck that fit the description of Ortega-Vidal's, driving in the Bermuda Run community. When police tried to stop the vehicle, they say, the driver got out and ran.

The infant was found inside the truck and was taken to Wake Forest University Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Authorities say she is OK, and she was reunited with her mother overnight.

Davie County authorities used their K-9 dog search unit but were not able to find the driver of the truck.

Ortega-Vidal is described as 37 years old, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weight about 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone seeing the man is asked to call 911.
