Teacher accused of liberties with student

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged a middle school teacher with taking indecent liberties with a child and disseminating harmful materials to minors.

Officers arrested Ryan Patrick Marshall, 37, a teacher at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials said the victim was one of Marshall's students. Officials said the incident occurred over the weekend, and a report was filed Monday.

In 2008, Marshall and another teacher self-published “Thoughts & Lamentations of Urban Education” about their teaching experiences. The 178-page book detailed a year in inner-city schools, through poetry, news flashes and takeoffs on pop songs.
