Matthews police are investigating a man who allegedly took pictures with a cell phone of women in a restroom of a Matthews pediatrician's office.
The investigation began after two female employees at Lindeman Pediactrics noticed a ceiling tile often missing in the women's bathroom – even after it was replaced.
One of the women looked into the hole and saw a light from a cell phone with a skull and cross-bone design, according to a search warrant.
The men's restroom is next to the women's, so the woman waited outside the men's bathroom to see who came out.
A male lab technician came out, and she went into the men's bathroom and found a missing tile there, too. She stood on the vanity and could see into the women's bathroom.
Last week, police went to the Monroe home of Julio Ruiz with a search warrant and took his computer and cell phone, the warrant said.
Police have not charged or arrested Ruiz, but are scouring the computer and phone for photos.
The clinic is a part of Presbyterian Hospital. Officials said in a statement Ruiz is no longer working at the clinic. They said only employees were targeted in the photos.
“We are cooperating with the Matthews Police Department on this investigation,” the hospital said in a statement. “The physicians and staff at the clinic are deeply disturbed by these allegations and are committed to providing a safe and caring environment for patients, families and employees.”
