An officer shot and killed a pit bull dog that was attacking a teenage girl Tuesday, police said.
Officers didn't release much information about the shooting. It happened about 3:15 p.m. near South Tryon Street and Remount Road. The girl was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment, though her injuries were not believed to be serious. The officer was also mildly injured by the dog, but didn't require treatment, said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Spokesman Officer Robert Fey.
It was the second significant incident involving that breed of dogs in Charlotte in three months. In late July, a 9-year-old Charlotte girl was mauled by a pit bull her neighbor was trying to sell. -- Cleve R. Wootson Jr.
