A Veterans Day Service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at American Legion Post 144, on Park Drive.
Program speakers are Gene Reinhardt, a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack of Dec. 7, 1941, and Lt. Col. Kent Hyde, an Army veteran of the war in Iraq.

Three public meetings will be held to discuss the New Hibriten District Middle School. The public meetings will be 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the William Lenoir Middle School gymnasium and Nov. 19 and Dec. 1 at Hibriten High School Media Center.

Gaston County
Gaston County Parks and Recreation will host a meeting Nov. 19 for those interested in selecting tournament dates for county fields in 2010.

The annual "Fur, Fangs and Feathers Fall Festival" at Crowders Mountain State Park will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday

The city of Newton will hold its annual Light Up the Town celebration at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 29 on the Square in downtown Newton.
Free activities will include photos with Santa and a hayride. Camel rides will be available for a fee.
