Gaston County

The Gaston County Family YMCA Prayer Breakfast will be 7-8:30 a.m. Nov. 19 at Stowe Family YMCA, 196 YMCA Drive, Belmont.

The featured speaker will be contemporary Christian musical artist Kyle Matthews. Tickets are $12 per person or $80 per table and are available at any Gaston County Family YMCA branch.

The Mount Holly breakfast will be held 7:30-9 a.m. Friday at the Citizens Center, 400 E. Central Ave., Mount Holly.

Brad Rivers of Gaston College will discuss "How to Start a Small Business," 7:30-9 a.m. Friday at the Citizens Center, 400 E. Central Ave., Mount Holly.

Lincoln County

Lincolnton Parks and Recreation will accept registration for the 2009-10 youth basketball league 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday at Lentz Recreation Center at Betty G. Ross Park, 800 S. Madison St., Lincolnton, and 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 14 and 21 and Dec. 5 at the Lentz Gym.

Cost is $30 per child for city residents and $45 for nonresidents. Registration will be accepted until noon Dec. 5. The Recreation Department also seeks volunteer coaches for the league. For details and an application, call the recreation office at 704-735-2671.

Auditions for "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" are scheduled for 5-9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2-5 p.m. Sundays Nov. 20-22 and Dec. 4-6 at Lincoln Theatre Guild, 403 E. Main St., Lincolnton.

Military

Army Pvt. Joshua Bradley recently graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky.

Bradley is the son of Jeff Bradley of Gastonia and is a 2005 graduate of Bessemer City High School.

Brandon Oelkers has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky.

Oelkers is a student at Appalachian State University and is the son of Robin and Dale Oelkers of Cherryville. He is a 2007 graduate of Cherryville High School.
