Caldwell County

South Caldwell High School will participate in the statewide College Application Week on Nov. 10-14.

Administrators at South Caldwell will work with students on Nov. 12 to complete and submit at least one college application online.

Hickory

Grover Linebarger, principal of Catawba Valley High School, was recently named the 2009 Wachovia Principal of the Year for Hickory Public Schools.

He now advances to regional competition.

Linebarger began his administrative career in Catawba County Schools as an assistant principal at Oxford Elementary and later served as principal of Sweetwater Elementary. He joined Catawba Valley High last year.

Regional winners will be named in February, followed by the state winner in April.

Newton-Conover

Several students at Newton-Conover High School recently won cross country honors.

Alfredo Dominguez was named to the All-Conference Cross Country Boys' Team. Jessica Badertscher was selected for the All-Conference Cross Country Girls' Team.

The girls' cross country team also was the first in the school's history to win a conference championship.
