Myrick appointees

The following Providence Day Upper School students were recently appointed to serve on Rep. Sue Myrick's Youth Advisory Council: Tucker Albert, Nathan Bruns, Alex Cichan, Zach Gilbert, Paul Heacock, Madeline Jurch and Hanna Terry.

Council members are selected based on a number of factors, including academic success, volunteer activities and extracurricular participation. The group meets on a regular basis to talk and share their opinions with Myrick about current events, politics and the government. Details: 704-887-6001.

Union

Handy gifts

Allan Tarczynski, recruiter for the N.C. Army National Guard, donated lanyards to East Union Middle School. Students wear lanyards daily to carry their ID badges and signature cards. Details: 704-290-1549, ext. 2465.

York/Lancaster

Best bands

After competing at the recent state competition, Fort Mill Township is home to two state championship bands.

Fort Mill High School and Nation Ford High School took home first-place honors at the state championships. This is Nation Ford's first win at the state championship. The band, only in its third year, competed in Class AAA. Fort Mill competed in Class AAAA, taking home its first state title since 2005.
