Band honors
Mallard Creek High School's Marching Mavericks band won first place overall in its class at the Hickory Ridge High School Festival of Bands. The band also received individual awards, including second place for color guard and drumline, and first place for drum major, marching, general effect and music. Details: 980-343-1341.
Video winner
Child Care Resources Inc. recently won CINE Golden Eagle Awards for its "Ready, Set, Go!" video series and the video "Making the Move to Kindergarten." The videos were co-developed by CCRI, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) and the N.C. Department of Public Instruction/Office of School Readiness (NCDPI).
The awards distinguish excellence in professional, independent and student works and are recognized internationally as symbols of the highest standards in film and television production. Details: www.ReadySetK.org.
Award winners
The following members from Pfeiffer University's Office of Student Development recently received R. Randy Rice Service Awards from the N.C. Housing Officers Association (NCHO): Daryl Bruner, director of counseling services; Havaleh Havelka, director of student life; Quinton McKissick, director of outdoor leadership and campus recreation; Sandy Miller, director of health services; and Paula Morris, administrative assistant.

Myrick appointees
The following Providence Day Upper School students were recently appointed to serve on Rep. Sue Myrick's Youth Advisory Council: Tucker Albert, Nathan Bruns, Alex Cichan, Zach Gilbert, Paul Heacock, Madeline Jurch and Hanna Terry.
Council members are selected based on a number of factors, including academic success, volunteer activities, and extracurricular participation. The group meets on a regular basis to talk and share their opinions with Myrick about current events, politics and the government. Details: 704-887-6001.
