Teen Volunteer Board forming

The Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte is looking for high school students to serve on its first Teen Volunteer Board.

Students who join the board will serve as their school's ambassador for the charity that helps families with children who are seriously ill.

“Our current teen volunteers constantly amaze us with their willingness to put their skills and talents to work for the families” of Ronald McDonald House, said Ari Harris, RMH of Charlotte's community outreach director. “When they get older and see the house completed, they'll be able to say, ‘I helped build that house.'”

Students must be enrolled in a Charlotte-area high school as a junior or senior, maintain good standing at their school, be able to attend monthly meetings and have transportation.

Application deadline is 5p.m. Sept. 25. To apply: Call 704-335-1191 or e-mail arihar ris@rmhofcharlotte.org .

Union

Indian Trail

A new Web site for Indian Trail residents and sheriff's officers could mobilize citizens in minutes when crimes happen in town.

The town is paying $6,000 for a two-year subscription to www.citizenobserver.com, which allows residents to sign up by neighborhood and receive notifications from sheriff's officers.

When a major event happens, such as a string of car break-ins or a missing child, the Union County Sheriff's Office can send a text message and e-mail to residents in that neighborhood who have joined the Web site.

“(Residents) are going to be able to help me then,” said Sgt. Chase Coble. The Web site also allows business owners in Indian Trail to join a group, and Coble will send out messages about crimes that could affect them.

Ten counties and towns in North Carolina use the Web site, including Matthews and Monroe. The site also will contain updated information about major events in Indian Trail and construction projects that could affect traffic.

To register, visit www.citi zenobserver.com . Coble said residents can get the most benefit from the site by then searching for a “watch group” using ZIP code 28079 and joining a group for their neighborhood or nearest neighborhood. Business owners can join the business group.
