The West Charlotte High School indoor swimming pool will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through June 5, except when Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are on break for holidays. The school is at 2219 Senior Drive. The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department will operate the pool and offer the following programs:
8:05-8:50 a.m., Adult water fitness, $2 per person.
9-9:30 a.m., Beginner swim lessons for Sand Dollars, children ages 3-5.
9:45-10:30 a.m., Beginner swim lessons for Otters, children ages 6-12.
10:45-11:30 a.m., Beginner swim lessons for teens and adults.
11:45 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Open swimming, $1 per person.

A public ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday will mark the Little Sugar Creek Greenway part of the Carolina Thread Trail, a planned network of existing and future greenways running through 15 counties in the Charlotte region. At the ceremony, Daniel McCormick, artist-in-residence at the McColl Center for Visual Art, will announce the “eco-art” project he and volunteers will create along the creek, beginning this month and running until November.
The project will transform natural materials and plants into a woven sculpture to protect eroding areas. The ceremony will be at the section of the greenway behind the Charlotte Nature Museum, 1658 Sterling Road and beside the lake in Freedom Park. The public can walk or bike to the site or park at the museum or in Freedom Park lots near entrances at 1900 East Blvd. or 2436 Cumberland Ave.
