Bobcats Camp Observations

By Rick Bonnell

WILMINGTON -- So with all these long-range shooters, who was the first Bobcat to make a half-court shot at the end of practice Monday? Jason Richardson? Matt Carroll? Adam Morrison?

Nope. Gerald Wallace, who launched the shot from his chest and found nothing but net.

Emeka Okafor again missed practice Monday with a sore back, but that doesn't mean he sat around. He worked out continuously with a weighted (10-pound) rubber ball to maintain his strength while away from the game.

I bet Okafor doesn't play in Orlando Wednesday; doesn't make much sense in a preseason exhibition.

For all the concern about Sean May's knee, it's been the other big men missing practice with injuries. Okafor, Nazr Mohammed, Ryan Hollins and Andre Brown each missed at least one session of training camp.

The team held May out of some two-a-day activity, but that was more as a precaution than because his right knee was hurting.

The Bobcats didn't have an evening practice Monday after similarly skipping a two-a-day schedule on Saturday. Coach Larry Brown says that reflects how hard this team is working, so he's rewarding the players with extra rest.
