Helping soldiers, Saturday

Mountain bike races, Saturday

The Bank of NC Short Track Mountain Bike Race Series, "Racing for a Cause," fights polio and funds Alzheimer's research. Proceeds go to the Community Free Clinic ( www.communityfreeclinic.org) and Cooperative Christian Ministry.

The four-race series ends Nov. 21. Races are Saturdays in the Harrisburg Town Park. The fee is $20 for adults and $13 for youth. www .charlottemtnbike.com .

Fitness food drive, Saturday

Get in shape with a free workout with Operation Bootcamp. A donation of a bag of nonperishable food items for Second Harvest Bank is required. Free workouts are Saturday and Nov. 21. Workouts begin at 9 a.m. at Freedom Park near the Mahlon Adams Pavilion. Christen.lewis@operationbootcamp .com .

Belk charity sale, Saturday

A $5 donation at Belk will give customers access to a four-hour, early-bird shopping spree. Items will be 15 to 50 percent off. The event is 6-10 a.m. Saturday. Customers will also receive $5 off their first purchase of $5 or more at the event, and Belk cardholders will receive double rewards points for card purchases. Advanced tickets can also be purchased at Belk.

Housing reunion, Saturday

Charlotte Emergency Housing is holding an alumni reunion at the shelter noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Last year, 22 families attended the inaugural reunion.

Good eats, good cause, Tuesday

Cruising into the Holidays with a Taste of Hope is Hope Haven's annual fundraising gala. There will be a cooking demonstration with celebrity chefs, appetizers from local restaurants, a silent auction and more. The culinary event will be 5:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Charlotte Marriott City Center, 100 W. Trade St. $55 per person or $50 each for orders of multiple tickets. Fight arthritis, Thursday

Purses with Power benefits the Arthritis Foundation is Thursday at Extravaganza Depot. There will be a silent auction of purses along with themed accessories including jewelry from Perry's of South Park.
