Faith Notes | Peace activist at Piedmont UUC Oct. 9

Piedmont Unitarian-Universalist Church, 9704 Mallard Creek Road, will host Ann Wright, former Army colonel, State Department employee and peace activist, to speak 7 p.m. Oct. 9.

Wright has master's and law degrees from the University of Arkansas and a master's degree in national security affairs from the Naval War College.

The free event is sponsored by the Piedmont Unitarian-Universalist Peace Alliance and the Piedmont Unitarian-Universalist Social Justice Committee.

Erik Bledsoe at Pineville UMC

Christian recording artist Erik Bledsoe will perform 6-9 p.m. Oct. 11 at Pineville United Methodist Church, 110 S. Polk St., Pineville.

Faith leaders sought for panel on gay life

Queens University of Charlotte Student Life Department is seeking religious leaders from a spectrum of faiths to participate in a panel discussion following the showing of the film “For the Bible Tells Me So.” The event will be 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 on the Queens campus.

The panel should represent a variety of perspectives on the intersection of homosexuality and faith, and give students a chance to ask questions in a respectful environment.

Fall bazaar Oct. 18 at Eastway Drive Church

Eastway Drive Church of God, 11321 Eastway Drive, will have its fall bazaar 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 18.

Breakfast and sandwiches will be for sale. Shop among 50 vendors for clothes, jewelry, fragrance oils, and arts and crafts.

Motorcyclists invited to Graham library

Individual motorcyclists, motorcycle clubs and chapters are invited to pack bikes with Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes and ride to the Billy Graham Library on Nov. 22.

Each participant will receive a memento of the ride and a tour of the library. Prizes will be awarded. Library admission is free.

‘Religion and Politics' at Myers Park UMC

The autumn series, “Religion And Politics,” at Charlotte's Myers Park United Methodist Church continues at 7 p.m. Monday with a panel discussion on “Faith in the City.”

Participants include Jennifer Roberts, chairman of the Mecklenburg County commissioners; community activist Sarah Stevenson; and the Rev. Tom Tate, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board member and pastor of Plaza Presbyterian Church. Child care is available for ages 8 and under. Reservations: 704-376-8584.

Multicultural Festival at Sugaw Creek

The Mission and Justice and Church Development Committees and the Latino Ministries of the Presbytery of Charlotte will host the second annual Multicultural Festival on Oct. 4 at Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church, 101 W. Sugar Creek Road.

More than 40 countries have been invited to participate. Displays will include food, music, flags, maps, games, souvenirs and ethnic music and dances.

A noncompetitive soccer tournament begins at 9 a.m. A multicultural worship service celebrating the Pentecost story will be held in the sanctuary at 11 p.m. A festival of food, displays and performances will be noon-3 p.m. Free admission. Details: 704-535-9999; 800-926-1537.

NeXus Church launches Sunday

The launch of NeXus Church will be 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday at 800 N. College St.

In January 2007, a group of 36 people representing more than 10 nationalities started the church. The church now serves 650 people in transition and 120 youth each week. Details: Jeff Park, 704-351-1320; jeff@nexus church.net.
