2006 Piegaia Chianti Classico DOCG, Italy
$13.99 at Reid's Fine Foods
& More
There is nothing fancy about this wine, and that's a good thing. Produced from predominantly Sangiovese grapes, this simple red is a snapshot of what's good about chianti. Bright red fruit, with moderate tannins and lively acidity, chianti is one of those earthy, rustic style wines that work so well with food. The firm acid structure stands up particularly well to bold Italian-style dishes. This wine was a very satisfying companion to a simple spaghetti dinner on a cold, rainy night.
