West Charlotte High wasn't close to perfect at homecoming, but the Lions were more than sufficient.

Ahmad Brown passed for four touchdowns to lead West Charlotte to a 42-0 ME-CA 6 4A win against Concord Robinson at Jack Martin Stadium.

The Lions (5-3, 3-0) dominated from the start by scoring on their first two possessions behind Brown, a sophomore starting a homecoming game for the first time.

“It was just another game,” said Brown, who completed 12 of 21 passes for 121 yards. “We came out and just played football, play how West Charlotte plays. No playing (around), no nothing.”

The Lions wasted no time getting underway behind Brown and receiver Stanley Wright. They connected on a 30-yard scoring pass to close West Charlotte's first drive and a 20-yarder to make the score 14-0.

By the time Brown tossed his fourth scoring pass, a strike to Travis Griffin from 17 yards out in the third quarter, the Lions were good enough to outdistance Robinson as well as a rash of West Charlotte penalties and mistakes.

“The guys really accepted the challenge we put on them this week as far as coming out here and executing early,” Lions coach Aaron Brand said. “Robinson gave a dogfight at the beginning and they just don't have the caliber of athlete we have this year and that's the way the tables turn sometimes. I'm sure some day we won't have the athletes they're producing in Cabarrus County.”

West Charlotte's defense had one of its best outings of the season, limiting the Bulldogs to 59 yards total offense. The Lions also forced five turnovers, which gave West Charlotte opportunities to work on Robinson's end of the field. Brand said he was pleased with the Lions' effort, but there's much room left for improvement.

“We were in control the entire time, but I try to get these guys to think about finishing and think about executing,” he said.

“We talk about being perfect and playing perfect, and we know it's not possible but when you make all the mistakes and see all the laundry on the field, you can't really celebrate like you want to.”
