A Union County dentist has been arrested on multiple charges related to the discovery of 54 marijuana plants at his home, the sheriff's office says.

Dr. Andrew Jackson Branch, 58, was arrested Thursday evening and charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana, and several other offenses. The arrest followed the discovery of marijuana plants with a street value of nearly $130,000, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff's Capt. Mike Easley said narcotics officers and deputies found the plants at Branch's residence, in the 6300 block of Riggins Road, south of Marshville near the state border.

In addition to the plants, Easley said officers found 23 1/2 ounces of packaged marijuana, with a street value of $6,660.

Also found were three pistols, 11 rifles, two shotguns and $690 in cash.

Nobody answered the phone early Friday afternoon at Branch's office on North Broome Street in Waxhaw.

Branch was released on $10,000 bond and has a court date of Aug. 5.
