An assistant dean at UNC Charlotte has been arrested and charged with embezzlement.

Ashley Postell, Assistant Dean of Students for Greek Life at UNCC, was arrested Tuesday by campus police and charged with six counts of embezzlement.

Postell, 27, of Charlotte, was arrested around midday Tuesday.

UNCC officials said circumstances surrounding the alleged offenses came to light Monday. School officials would not say how much money was involved, or how Postell might have come in contact with the funds.

They said that is part of an ongoing investigation, which limits UNCC officials from providing additional details.

Postell could not be reached.

Postell, who came to UNCC in July 2006, was charged with three counts of embezzlement by a public officer and three counts of embezzlement of state property. She was released on bond.

The assistant dean over Greek Life is responsible for overseeing the activities of sororities and fraternities on campus. At many colleges and universities, the person in that role also handles financial affairs for Greek organizations.

Postell earned $38,213 in her role at the school. School officials said Postell has been suspended with pay, pending the results of internal and criminal investigations.
