Voters in Indian Trail, Waxhaw and Wingate approved mixed drink sales for their towns by wide margins Tuesday.
In complete, unofficial vote totals, 70 percent of Indian Trail voters backed mixed drink sales. In Waxhaw, 78 percent said yes; in Wingate, 63 percent. Wingate and Indian Trail also approved ABC stores, and Waxhaw OK'd malt beverage sales.
Thirteen Union County towns had mayoral and town board races Tuesday.
In Stallings, incumbent Mayor Linda Paxton appeared to have withstood a challenge from a field that included former Mayor Lucy Drake and Town Council member Barbara Anne Price. Also, write-in candidate Harry Stokes apparently defeated an incumbent for a seat on the Stallings' town board.
Other unofficial results for contested races include:
Fairview town council: Winners of two seats were incumbents Bradley Purser (44 percent) and Jerry Clontz (31 percent).
Hemby Bridge alderman, two seats: Rodney Mullis (28 percent), Kevin Pressley (27 percent).
Indian Trail town council: Robert Allen and Darlene Luther led narrowly with 653 and 650 votes respectively. Next two closest challengers were Danny Figueroa, 638 votes and Kathy Broom, 634.
Marvin mayor: incumbent John Ciaramella Jr. had 348 votes to 342 for challenger Joseph Barbara. For two council seats, unofficial winners were Anthony Burman (32 percent) and Ron Salimao (31 percent).
Mineral Springs town council winners, three seats: incumbent Jerry Countryman with 219 votes, incumbent Janet Critz, 215; incumbent Melody LaMonica, 215.
Stallings mayor: Paxton (56 percent). Town council: District 1, Harry Stokes, write-in (64 percent); District 2, Reed Esarove (67 percent); District 3, Wyatt Dunn, (77 percent); District 6, Paul Frost (63 percent).
Unionville mayor: incumbent Larry Simpson led with 67 percent. Winners for town commissioner: incumbents Ken Brown Jr. (29 percent) and Robert Croutch (25 percent).
Waxhaw commissioner, three seats: incumbent Joyce Blythe (22 percent), Brett Diller (25 percent), Erin Kirkpatrick (26 percent).
Weddington mayor: incumbent Nancy Anderson won with 37 percent of votes. Town council: District 1, Werner Thomisser (50 percent); District 3, Daniel Barry (54 percent).
Wesley Chapel town council, two seats: Howard Brotton (35 percent) and Kim Ormiston (42 percent).
