Love it, hate it – or just plain don't understand it – Twitter.com is becoming an increasingly important tool to get to know your community.

Twitter, a social networking site that allows users to post and read each other's updates on where they are and what they're doing, has been one of the fastest-growing Web sites since it was launched in 2006. Twitter users write updates of 140 characters or less, display them on their Twitter page and deliver them to users who have subscribed to them.

There are more than 3,200 Twitter users in Charlotte, according to Twitterholic.com, a Web site that tracks Twitter traffic. Here's a list of the most popular users in the area and the best sites to visit for everything Charlotte.
