Suspect in Hidden Valley shootout dies of injuries

As administrators and parents prepared for summer programs inside Hidden Valley Elementary on Tuesday, police were conducting an undercover drug buy outside to build a case against gang members. It quickly turned sour. The suspects tried to turn the deal into a robbery, police say, and gunshots were exchanged.

Teacher education in the nation’s universities is “an industry of mediocrity,” says a new report that rates hundreds of programs and gives less than 10 percent at least three stars on a four-star scale. Among the North Carolina programs rated, only one made the report’s honor roll.
