Voters go to the polls next week for a rare June congressional primary, but there’s another little-followed race on the ballot that is at least as important: A seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court.
The Village of Lake Park, in Union County, hosted its annual Memorial Day ceremony at Veterans Pond on Faith Church Road. Several hundred people brought lawn chairs or blankets to listen to patriotic music, hear speakers like Harvey Mayhill, of Rock Hill, S.C. who gave the keynote address and watch the presentation of colors, a three round volley by the Union County Veterans Council Color Guard and the playing of taps. The presentation of colors was performed by the Piedmont High School, Air Force JROTC and the Veterans Council.
