They might be just four games into the season, but these brutal offensive halves the Bobcats are experiencing are no mirage.
Gerald Wallace seems to be the only player establishing any post-up presence, and the point guards are struggling to drive in a way that creates any mismatch. Teams feel little fear of hanging back and daring any Bobcat to beat them from the outside.
With Vlade Radmanovic and Raymond Felton shooting a combined 0-of-11 in the first half, you can see why that would happen.
Unlike baseball, where hitting and fielding are separate concepts, basketball is a game of flow. And that's, in part, why the Bobcats look worse defensively this season than they really are.
"Where we get hurt is there's no defense for a turnover or (allowing) a second shot,'' Brown explained pre-game. "We simply commit too many unforced errors (resulting in) too many empty possessions.''
Some of the urgency in bringing back Raja Bell from a wrist injury might have been about the schedule.
This matchup with the Nets was the Bobcats' most winnable game in the next two weeks: They play Atlanta, Chicago, home-and-home with Orlando, Detroit and Portland. Since the Chicago and Detroit games are on the road, they might not be favored in any of those.
