Gorman to pitch four-year CMS plan

Superintendent Peter Gorman will pitch a new plan for improving Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to a group of community leaders Thursday.

His talk, “Stragetic Plan 2014: Teaching Our Way to the Top,” comes three years into his leadership of the state's second-largest district. It's designed to build on the initial plan he laid out in November 2006.

Gorman will talk to an invitation-only crowd at ImaginOn in the morning. He said private sponsors will cover the cost of the event, roughly $15,000.

The speech will air at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday on CMS-TV Cable 3.

Gorman and his staff held several community meetings to discuss the new plan. The presentation comes two days after an election that brings a new majority to the school board that employs Gorman. He said the timing of his speech doesn't interfere with their power to set policy, but represents his guidance to staff for the next four years.

“We need to keep moving ahead,” he said.
