A load of holiday cheer turned into a morning of misery Friday for the driver of a truck and many other motorists on outbound East Independence Boulevard in Charlotte.
A truck carrying Christmas trees overturned about 7 a.m. on Independence Boulevard, a short distance west of the Eastway Drive exit.
The wreck caused two outbound lanes of Independence Boulevard to be closed for several hours. All lanes were reopened by late Friday morning, but crews worked into the mid-afternoon hours, trying to reload the trees onto another truck.
The truck knocked down a power pole, which is why authorities closed the center and right lanes of Independence Boulevard. The utility problem has been cleared, authorities say. Police say the driver of the truck was injured, but the extent of the injuries are not known.
