Jeff Ledford has been appointed new chief of the Shelby Police Department.

He has served as interim chief since April, when Tandy Carter left to become police chief in Columbia, S.C.

Ledford, 40, is a graduate of Kings Mountain High School, Cleveland Community College and Columbia Southern University.

The Shelby Police Department has 87 employees including 72 sworn officers and 16 civilians.

Ledford, who joined the department in 1992, will be sworn in Monday following the Shelby City Council meeting.
