Two young children who were trapped inside an SUV that turned over in a Lincoln County pond Tuesday night were still in critical condition Friday at Carolinas Medical Center.
Taylor Peyton, 5, and John Peyton, II, 2, were riding in the sports utility vehicle with their mother, Chasity Spivey, 23, of Maiden, when the SUV ran off Gladden Road east of Lincolnton.
Spivey died from her injuries Wednesday morning at Carolinas Medical Center.
About 25 volunteers took part in the rescue of Spivey, her son and daughter. Authorities said the victims had no pulses when they were removed from the SUV, but were revived by CPR on the banks of the pond.
