UNC Charlotte will be turned into a 30K duathlon course on Saturday with the RuBiRu (Run, Bike, Run) race that will benefit the Brain Tumor Fund for the Carolinas.

Participants will run a 5k, then bicycle a 20k time trial around the perimeter loop of the university's 1,000-acre campus. They'll finish with a 5k cross-country run on UNCC's wooded trails.

The brain tumor fund is part of an effort to create a multi-million-dollar, nationally competitive research program at UNCC that will partner with area cancer physicians.

RuBiRu begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Intramural Field number 8.

You can participate in the duathlon individually, or in teams of three. Participants are urged to find sponsors to help raise money for the fund.

Register online (www.RuBiRu.com), or at the Saturday event from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The 5k run is $20 ($25 the day of the event); the duathlon is $35 ($40 at the event) and the relay is $45 ($50 at the event). UNCC student get a $5 discount. For more information, go to www.RuBiRu.com.
