Police seek uptown robber

By Steve Lyttle

Armed robbery has not been a big problem in Charlotte's uptown area for several years, but police are looking for suspects -- or possibly a single suspect -- in connection with two incidents early Thursday involving Johnson & Wales University students.

Two robberies were reported in a half-hour span, within a few blocks of the Gateway Village campus. Three students were victims of the crimes.

The same area was rocked last week by a double murder, although the victims in that crime were not university students.

This time, two students who were standing outside their dormitory apartment on Cedar Street near Fourth Street were robbed at gunpoint by a man. The suspect drove off in a silver Maxima, the victims told police.

Then 20 minutes later, a student was robbed at gunpoint near the CVS store on North Graham Street at West Sixth Street.

Police say the same suspect might have been involved in both robberies.

The students were not injured, and no arrests were made.
