Manhunts in 2 home break-ins

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have two suspects in custody and are looking for three others, in connection with a pair of home burglary cases in north Charlotte.

The break-ins took place in an area where home burglaries have been a major problem for police in recent months.

Police have asked neighbors for help in calling them about strangers in neighborhoods, and it appears as if those tips made a difference today.

But in both cases, a manhunt was still under way early Tuesday afternoon.

The first case began about 9:15 a.m., in the 10700 block of Tigerton Lane. That is off Mallard Creek Road, near Prosperity Church Road. A witness told University City Division police that two men had broken into a house there. The two men fled into nearby woods as police arrived.

Officers called out their K-9 dog search team and the police helicopter to look for the suspects in a wooded area near The Tradition Golf Course. There is no description of the suspects.

The second burglary happened shortly after 11 a.m., in the 4600 block of Monmouth Place. That is off Dalecrest Drive, near Interstate 85 and North Graham Street.

Police say someone saw three men breaking into a house. Police arrived in time to catch two suspects. Another K-9 dog unit is looking for the third suspect in that case.
