Bad news this morning for motorists headed toward Charlotte from South Carolina and southern Mecklenburg County on Interstate 77.
A multi-vehicle wreck was reported about 7:45 a.m. on northbound I-77, near mile marker 7. That is near Clanton Road. The wreck initially blocked the left and center lanes. Crews cleared the wreckage about 8:15 a.m., but traffic is backed up.
At 8:30 a.m., backups extended about three miles, although traffic is moving past the scene.
Motorists can expect slow improvement in conditions on I-77 during the next half-hour. Normal conditions are expected after 9 a.m.
