Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a fatal shooting overnight in northeast Charlotte.
Police have not determined if the shooting death would rate as criminal homicide. If they do, it would count as the 75th homicide of the year, surpassing last year's total.
An argument between two men apparently led to the shootout shortly before 1:30 a.m. today in the 5300 block of Great Wagon Road, off North Sharon Amity Road near Shamrock Drive.
Julius Thompson, 19, was shot and killed after he went to the home of Melvin McCall, 27. McCall was wounded. Police are investigating circumstances of the shooting.
Police say witnesses told them that Thompson stopped at the house to see McCall. An argument followed.
Police say they were alerted to the shooting when McCall ran to a neighbor's residence and said he had been shot. He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he is in serious but stable condition.
Police say that anyone with information in the overnight case is asked to call a Homicide detective at 704-432-TIPS, or contact Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600.
