Gastonia police have made an arrest in the case of a purse-snatching involving a 71-year-old Gaston County woman.
Police say Obrian Dashon Smith, 17, of Gastonia, has been charged with felony common law robbery. He is accused of taking the purse from a Bessemer City woman in the parking lot of a Target store in Gastonia. The incident happened Friday, when many people were doing holiday shopping.
Police say the suspect asked the victim to use her cell phone. When she reached for the cell phone, police say, the suspect grabbed the woman's purse and ran. Police say information from witnesses helped them make an arrest.
