A buildup of grease caused a manhole to overflow earlier today in the Concord Lake basin, Kannapolis officials report.
City officials did not specify where the overflow took place, but they said it is estimated that up to 6,000 gallons of sewage might have spilled into the basin that flows into Concord Lake, a water source for the arfea.
Authorities said late this morning that repairs had been made and added that no "significant" environmental damage had taken place. They said inspection of the system will continue, to make sure no damage was done.
Water system remind the public not to dump grease into drainage pipes, because that can cause spills like the one that took place today.
