MONROE -- A physical education teacher and girls basketball coach at Monroe High School turned himself in Wednesday afternoon after learning an arrest warrant had been issued for him in connection with an alleged sex offense with a student, according to Monroe police.
The alleged incident between Ollie Van Shepherd Jr., 31, of Wingate and the student took place at the school during school hours, a police release said. Shepherd turned himself in to police about 4:30 p.m. at the Union County Magistrate's office.
Shepherd has been suspended from his job with pay.
