Authorities have dropped charges against a man who was fired last year as an assistant principal in the Iredell-Statesville Schools, saying the accuser's story had inconsistencies.
The district attorney's office in Iredell County said it dropped the charges after finding problems with the story told by the 16-year-old girl in the case.
The former administrator accused in the case is Lamar Lewis, who was fired in March 2008 as assistant principal at South Iredell High School in Troutman. A few days before the firing, a female student at the school told police that Lewis had performed a sex act in front of her in his office.
Lewis told NewsChannel 36, the Observer's news partner, that the girl's accusation and the school system's actions have damaged his career.
"They were the judge and jury, and they convicted me," Lewis told NewsChannel 36's Mark Boone, referring to the school board.
The Iredell-Statesville Schools have declined comment on the case, saying it involved personnel issues and potential legal issues. Lewis has not said if he will take legal action.
There is no word from authorities if the student will face any charges.
