Police shot and killed a pit bull Saturday after it charged toward them at a Rock Hill home.
According to a Rock Hill police report, two officers responded to a report of a vicious dog on Stewart Avenue. When officers arrived, they found three women sitting on a chain link fence yelling warnings, pointing toward the animal. They also saw a man running and pointing the same direction.
A brown-and-white pit bull then emerged from the backyard, barking and growling as it ran toward the officers, according to the report. When it was within 10 feet of the officers, still charging, they fired at the dog, killing it.
Witnesses said the dog has a history of biting mail delivery people and others who approached the home. Officers were unable to locate the owner of the dog.
