4 from UNCC win awards

Four faculty members at UNC Charlotte have been named regional or national award winners in recent days.

The group includes Margaret Morgan, who will be honored Saturday during UNCC's commencement exercises at Halton Arena on campus.

Morgan is this year's recipient of the North Carolina Board of Gfovernors Award for Excellence in Teaching. She began her work at UNCC in 1987 as a lecturer, after completing her doctorate work in rhetoric and composition at Purdue University. She led the effort to improve the rteaching of freshman composition and launched new placement procedures for students for whom English is a second language.

She also has worked with teachers in Germany and Thailand and taught a writing workshop for teachers in a South African village.

Other award winners are Diane Browder, Jack Culbreth and David Test, all from the College of Education.

Browder, who teaches child development and special education, was named Distinguished Researcher by the American Educational Research Association's Special Education Research Group.

Culbreth, who teaches counseling, won the Outstanding Counselor Educator Award from the International Association for Addictions and Offender Counselors.

Test, who teaches child development and special education, won the 2009 Research Award from the International Council for Exception Children.
